USER drftpd - Access Denied

Postby Revenge » Fri Apr 22, 2005, 9:02 am

Hi, i have instaled drftpd 2.0 rc4 on a Fedora Core 3 unix Machine.

But i got a problem, after i started the drftpd service, and i try to enter the ftp with the user drftpd and pass drftpd, i get an 530 - Access Denied.

This is what i have done to install it:

First i installed jdk-1.5 and Apache Ant 1.62, everything went ok, and i have replaced the correct Path's.

After that i have made a tar -xvzf drftpd-2.0rc4 to the /usr/drftpd, i have changed all conf.dist to conf.
I have uncomment pasv_addr and put my master IP at perms.conf

I have also copied to the same directory the dependencies, i have done this:
unzip drftpd-2.0-dep.zip -d /usr/drftpd

After that i have build them successfull with Ant.

all seems ok...

then i do this:

[root@localhost drftpd]# ./master.sh start

but i got this error...

ERROR: Don't run DrFTPD Master as superuser! (Override with RUN_AS_USER)

Ok, i then change to a normal user, and the drftpd service starts.

but then, with flashfxo i try to enter the server with user drftpd and pass drftpd and i got an 530 - Access Denied...

Can someone help me?
Thanks in advanced

Here's what I always do although others may have easier solutions:

shutdown the master and edit the users file of drftpd and add your IP as an allowed hostmask for drftpd and start the master again.

If you then try to login, it should work.

The drftpd user can only login initially over the localhost interface, this is a security concern. That is why you are getting Access Denied.

Oke...

Now i try to enter the ftp in localhost but i got a connection refused.

[ricardo@localhost drftpd]$ ftp localhost
ftp: connect: Connection refused

The server is running, cause i enter on it with flashfxp, then i get and access denied.

234 AUTH GSSAPI successful

KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type

This is your error, localhost or 127.0.0.1 doesn't matter, the connection was made, that portion is solved.

Whatever client you're using, turn off kerberos, drftpd doesn't support it and I'm not sure of a daemon that does, that's an odd feature to try and force.

I'm getting this same problem. And the Kerberos msg isn't an error, it's more of a information message as it still allows the user to proceed with logging on by typing in their user name after it shows. Connecting to glftpd does the same thing but it allows you to login. I'm using the standard ftp command line client from localhost on FC3. Anybody know why it won't let us login?

Hmm, ok it was the authentication thing. Try:
>ftp -u localhost port

then it won't try to use that kerberos thing. :)
